Apical Resection
Apical Resection
Apical Resection; It is performed in cases where root canal treatment is insufficient and the patient's pain continues. After unsuccessful root canal treatment, tissues called lesions may form at the tip of the tooth root.
Sometimes it is not possible to drain these lesions with root canal treatment. Therefore, Apical Resection is used at this stage.
How is apical resection done?
When the patient applies to the dentist because of his complaint, necessary examinations are made. If it requires apical resection, the dentist gives an antiseptic mouthwash to the patient, and the patient rinses his mouth with it. One day before the surgical operation, a mouthwash containing chlorhexidine given by the physician to the patient is used. This mouthwash helps wounds heal in less time.
Before the treatment is applied, the tooth is anesthetized with local anesthesia and then the necessary intervention is performed. Depending on the size of the lesion in the root, the extent of damage to the tooth, it is treated by opening the bone surface at the root tip or from the beginning of the tooth and the gingiva. After the infected area is completely cleaned, the root tip is filled and the gingiva is sutured back.
